As fans of insurance, we’re always on board with protecting your assets and covering yourself – but some types of insurance are surprisingly unusual, not to mention rarely necessary. Though it’s unlikely you’ll ever want to be covered for any of these oddball items, who knows? The insurance companies offer the protection for a reason, after all!
Insure Thy Hoverboard
You love the act of hanging out on your hoverboard, but what happens if something goes wrong with this newer piece of equipment? You can always insure it, or insure against things like fire hazards and falls related to the equipment and not your lack of ability. It may seem weird, but if you’re a professional hoverboarder, it might just make sense.
Take Horse Sense to a New Level
This insurance is less oddball and more niche. For those involved in activities and careers like horse riding, showing, grooming and entertainment, having the right insurance is necessary. As an example, all those Kentucky Derby horses probably are covered with racehorse insurance. Racehorse insurance protects against liability, mortality and infertility.
How Much Is a Picture Worth?
Fine art insurance is a must if you decide to buy that Van Gogh or Rembrandt you’ve been eyeing. Seriously, though, people who collect fine art are quite familiar with insurance. Who wants to have their fine art stolen or destroyed without the right coverage plan in place? Though this type of insurance is generally associated with the rich and famous, it could be right for you if you suddenly inherit a painting from your great-aunt that turns out to be signed by a recognized master.
Protect Against … Ghosts?
OK, we’re not talking about actual ghosts, but simulated ghosts. Specifically, operators of haunted houses and other haunted attractions need to have the right kind of coverage package on their insurance. People who are scared can do some crazy things, and can hurt themselves or others.
Stay Zombie-Free
There’s actually been some interest in getting zombie apocalypse insurance. In general, we don’t recommend you add this to your insurance coverage. With that being said, if you’re certain that zombies are going to come to central Pennsylvania sooner or later, we can always talk to you about how to protect yourself against a zombie slip-and-fall accident.
Worth an Arm and a Leg
At first glance, body-part insurance probably gives you the heebie-jeebies. Who would insure their hands? As it turns out, some people absolutely buy insurance protection in the case of limb or other body part loss. This includes body doubles and hand models. So if you’re in a profession where your body is really your business, you may be inclined to talk to your insurance agent about body-part insurance options.
The good news about all these oddball insurance types is that it’s clear you can always find the right insurance to keep you safe, including against the wackiest events. Now get out there and stay safe while battling the undead!
